Hello world!
So, what brings me to writing about being a “stay at home dad”? Well the truth is, I have found the world of parenting magazines and blogs to be extremely deficient in regard to my situation. Parenting is scary stuff for the novice, let alone the male novice whose only outlet for stress relief according to most articles is a “girls' night out” or a “Sunday afternoon spa day”. We are living in progressive times! I am the new demographic!
I see a lot of men walking around Brooklyn, NY, with their babies, and I bet they are exactly like me and can’t fathom joining a “mother support group” chock full emotions that we can’t relate to.
As a genuine representative of stay-at-home father-dom, I feel as though I can give a voice to that man who still enjoys a little drinking, or watching the baseball game, or going to a rock show.
The man who is about to say, “Not tonight honey, I have a headache!”
The man who is finding his way through that difficult first year of child rearing.
The man who is rectifying this new way of life with himself and his spouse.
Maybe, changing his first diaper, or learning that he really shouldn’t swear as much anymore (especially in front of the kid). The man who is just discovering that some of the things he used to do for pleasure will now have to take a back seat to the whims of his child and with time and patience he can learn that this is a truly great experience.
For many men, it truly is a new world, and I think that I can be of help to some guys who are frightened and lost in the miasma of female centric parenting, who knows...I’m sure we’ll be able to help each other.
